Royal Crown Cake
-
Your toddler prince or princess will feel like royalty with a crown-shaped birthday cake. Bake a prepackaged cake mix into two 8-inch round cake pans according to package directions. Allow the cakes to cool completely and layer them with icing. Knead pre-made sugar cookie dough with 2/3 cup flour and roll out into a rectangle, 1/4-inch thick. Create a crown section template by drawing it onto a piece of paper. The template may look like a rectangle at the bottom and the top contains a decorative bump as a place for the crown jewel. Draw a diamond or heart in the center of the template and cut it out. Gently place the template onto the cookie dough and cut out 12 cookies with a sharp knife. Lay each crown piece cookie onto a cookie sheet with a piece of parchment paper and sprinkle a good amount of yellow sugar sprinkles over it. Bake the cookies according to the directions on the dough package and allow to cool on a wire rack. Ice the cake's sides and top as well as the cookies with various piped decorations and candy for crown jewels. Gently press 11 of the cookies against the icing around the sides of the cake and pipe icing between them to keep them secure. The twelfth cookie is there for a back-up.
Basketball Cupcakes
-
For the little sports-lover in your life, create birthday basketball cupcakes. Bake or purchase large plain sugar cookies and bake your toddler's favorite cake flavor in cupcake liners. After cooling, frost each cupcake with white frosting as well as half of each of the sugar cookies. With orange icing gel, outline the iced part of the cookie, the outer ring of the cupcake and a square on the cookie icing's straight edge. Dab icing on the side of the cupcake and press it against the un-iced part of the cookie to appear as a backboard and rim. Adorn with chocolate basketball treats.

Princess Castle
-
Your toddler may think she is a princess when you make a princess castle cake for her special birthday party. Bake prepackaged cake mix and bake one 8-inch round cake and one 6-inch round cake. After they have cooled, ice the large round cake in white and set the smaller round off-center on the top of the cake. Ice the smaller cake as well in a white icing. Pipe a small amount of icing around the inner portion of five ice cream cones and insert five pointed sugar cones inside with the tip pointing up. Various sizes of cones may be used. Decorate the outside of the cake with sprinkles, pink sugar and candy bits.
Premade Cake
-
Your local grocery store or super-center most likely has various professionally made character cakes available for order. Encourage your toddler to choose a cake that displays his favorite cartoon, superhero, character or show. Ensure that you order the cake at least two weeks ahead of time and you may choose your cake type, frosting type and any piped wording you'd like on the top of the birthday cake. When you have little time to orchestrate the party or do not feel your efforts are best spent on making cakes, consider leaving it up to the professionals.
