Places to Donate Used Cars
Many people know that charities all over the country accept donations in the form of monetary contributions and even donations such as furniture and clothing, but many do not know that they can donate a used vehicle to charity as well. Vehicle donations are accepted by a variety of charities all over the country, providing donors with an income tax deduction and charities with vehicles to donate to the needy or sell at auctions to use the proceeds to fund charitable organizations. Donors with used cars can donate by contacting a local charity, signing over the title of the vehicle and delivering or having the vehicle picked up; it isn't even necessary for vehicles to work in the case of many charities.

Habitat for Humanity
-
Habitat for Humanity is a well-known charity that builds affordable housing for low-income families, which is something most people are well aware of. However, most people are surprised to find out Habitat for Humanity has a Cars for Homes program. This program allows donors to donate used vehicles to the charity, which are then sold at auction. The proceeds from each donated vehicle sale are used to fund Habitat for Humanity's charitable cause, which is building homes for those in need. Habitat for Humanity offers a pick-up service for donated vehicles provided the cost of towing the vehicle does not exceed the value of the vehicle, in which case the vehicle is not accepted as a donation unless you drop it off. Habitat offices are located all over the country.
Goodwill
-
Goodwill is known for its thrift shops where donated clothing and home goods are sold for deeply discounted prices to shoppers. Goodwill also accepts vehicle donations of any kind, in any condition. Some donated vehicles are sold and the proceeds are used to fund job training and placement and to pay the salaries of employees of Goodwill thrift shops as a way of providing jobs for those in need. Other donated vehicles are used for Goodwill's Wheels-to-Work programs, which provide transportation to and from work for those without a vehicle of their own.

Salvation Army
-
The vehicle donation process at the Salvation Army is similar to the vehicle donation program at the Goodwill. Donated vehicles are sold at auction and the proceeds from each sale are used to fund the Salvation Army's adult rehabilitation programs, which are located in hundreds of cities throughout the U.S. Adult rehabilitation programs are for adults stuck in a period of transition whether because of addiction, homelessness or abuse. This program provides treatment to those who need it, shelter to those without it and job training to those who need to work. The Salvation Army asks that you call their vehicle donation hotline to donate your vehicle, which the charity will then have picked up and delivered to their offices.
Cars for Breast Cancer
-
Breast Cancer patients and survivors often face financial burdens after the cost of doctor appointments, chemotherapy and radiation treatments and the amount of time at work that is missed due to these appointments and treatments. Cars for Breast Cancer is a program that assists these women with financial support during times of need by providing funds to make mortgage payments, insurance payments, car payments and the simple purchase of groceries. Donated vehicles are sold and the funds are used to give women the financial assistance they need to keep their lives on track when undergoing the horrors of this life-threatening disease.
