A hood comes with the backpack to keep the sun off the child, as well as a rain covering, which can be zipped. When unloading the baby from the backpack, the aluminum frame allows the user to set the backpack down and keep it in a freestanding position. The Kelty FC 2.0 child backpack has an adjustable seat for a growing baby, as well as a five-point harness for a safe fit. Loops to hold small toys to keep babies entertained are attached as well as a pocket to store a few diapers and a set of keys. The waist belt slides for a comfort fit, and the shoulders straps and back panel are padded. The backpack is made of aluminum, weighs less than seven pounds and sits up with a kickstand when placed on the ground. The body is made of a poly ripple, poly oxford and brushed nylon material. Geared more toward active parents, the ERGO baby backpack can be used on the front or back. The ERGO backpack is made up of a mesh lining, making it weigh less than other backpacks. The outside is a polyester material. The shoulder straps are wider for a more comfortable fit and less strain. An adjustable waist strap is used at the bottom. A removable sleeping hood can be used to support the baby's head. If carrying a newborn, add the infant insert, which fits down in the the backpack for added support of the baby's hips and spine. The ERGO carrier boasts reinforced stitching and rip-stop reinforcement at areas that are more prone to tearing. The ERGO was tested for up to 90 pounds.

A more serious baby backpack, the Sherpani Rumba is made out of recycled fabrics and can carry up to 55 pounds. The backpack, which weighs four pounds, comes with a sunshade and storm cover to protect against the elements. The Sherpani has a waist belt to hook around the person carrying the backpack, a five-point chest plate to keep the child secure, and stirrups for better circulation in their legs. A storage compartment is at the bottom of the backpack to carry needed items.
