Homemade Gift Ideas for Sisters

When you are choosing a gift for your sister, consider creating a homemade gift. A homemade gift is not only more personal, it gives you an opportunity to give her something that is truly creative and sentimental. Consider the things that your sister loves and experiences you have had together when you choose a homemade gift for your sister.

  • Create a scrapbook for your sister when you are making a gift for her around the holidays, for her birthday or even for her wedding. Choose pictures of the two of you and your family from throughout your life. Create pages around special memories, such as birthdays, vacations and other special events. Write your memories down so she can see how you feel about her.

Recipe Book

  • Family recipes are very important to many people. Compile a collection of family recipes for your sister. Ask all of the great cooks in your family to give you their best recipes, being sure to include the dishes that your sister likes the most. Purchase a blank recipe book and write all of the recipes inside it. Include the name of the person the recipe came from so she can think about him when she makes the dish. Leave blank pages in the recipe book for your sister to add other special recipes.

  • Make an edible gift for your sister to enjoy. For example, make a few different kinds of homemade jams, preserves or jellies and give them to her with an assortment of muffins, bagels and breads. If she enjoys sweets, bake a batch of cookies or brownies. Or give your sister a gift basket filled with her favorite foods, like cheeses or chocolates.

Monogrammed Item

  • Choose a simple gift and make it better by decorating it yourself. For example, choose a set of kitchen towels that complement the colors in her kitchen. Use stencils and fabric paint to paint her initials onto it. You could do the same thing with a set of pillowcases or a fabric shower curtain. Alternatively, choose a trunk from an unfinished furniture store. Paint or stain it and paint her initials onto the top of it to add decor and storage to her home.
