A birthday is something school-aged children can hardly wait for. The old tradition of bringing treats to the classroom so classmates can share the celebration is still holding strong. Cakes and regular cupcakes are traditional, however, bucking tradition with treats can make the birthday remembered long after the treats are gone. With a little imagination and a few ingredients, you can make treats for your child's class that will have them begging for more. Does this Spark an idea?

      "Kitchen sink" says it all! These fudgy, chewie brownies with a twist are going to be the talk of the classroom well after they are gone. Bake a regular fudge brownie mix according to the box directions. Pull the pan out 10 minutes before it is done. Sprinkle miniature marshmallows, Reeces Pieces or M&M candies to the top of the brownies and drizzle them with butterscotch sauce. Return to the oven for the last 10 minutes, until the marshmallows are bubbling. Remove brownies from the oven, allow to cool, then cut and place the pieces into cupcake papers. Voila! A treat fit for your little prince or princess.

When the cake is done, remove it from the oven, use a fork to flake the cake in the pan and then pour it into a bowl. Add a can of frosting to the hot cake and mix together. Refrigerate the mixture to make it easy to roll into balls. Spread powdered sugar onto wax paper. Remove the cake mixture from the refrigerator, roll into small balls and then roll through the powdered sugar to coat. You can also use jimmies, sprinkles or go the full distance and dip them in melted chocolate.

      Molten lava cupcakes are a bit of work, but every bite is worth it. Make a batch of cupcakes according to the directions on the cake mix. Once the cupcakes are baked, while they are still hot, fill a pastry bag with hot fudge. Inject hot fudge into the middle of each cupcake from the top. Cover the hole in the cupcake with the frosting. Pass them out to the students and watch the reactions when they break the cupcakes apart or bite into them and there is a lava surprise!

Allow the pizza to cool and fill a couple of pastry bags with different types of frosting, Use the bags to decorate the pizza with a birthday message to the child and a border. When it is time to eat the pizza, use a true pizza cutter and slice it up, one slice for each student. The pizza will be wildly accepted by the students and likely the only traces of it remaining will be around the lips of the kids.
