Meaningful Wedding Gifts
Appliances, gift cards and money are typical wedding gifts. Meaningful wedding gifts can be created by hand with paints and canvas, or pen and paper. The idea of thoughtful gifts is to impart feelings of love and honor to the bride and groom, making homemade and heartfelt gifts better than any other choice.

Book of Poetry by the Wedding Party
-
Two months before the wedding day, ask wedding attendants and members of the wedding party to write poems for the bride and groom. Gather poems and submit to an online self-publishing website. Personalize the poetry book with pictures of the bride, groom and wedding party. Print the date of the wedding on the cover of the poetry book. Order one copy of the poetry book as a gift to the bride and groom. After the wedding, send ordering information to wedding guests and the wedding party so they can order a copy as a wedding keepsake. If the bride and groom have children, ask the children to write several poems for the book. Alternatively, children of the wedding attendants can gather together to create a complete book of children's poetry.
Debt Relief
-
Financial security is important for new couples. Family members can donate money to the parents of the bride and groom for debt relief. The money can be paid directly to a debtor, or given to the bride and groom to pay off debt. Debt relief can have a lasting effect on financial outlook for a newly married couple.

Paintings
-
Purchase several large, white canvases, paints and paintbrushes. Hold a secret painting party with friends and family of the bride and groom. Ask attendants to create a piece of artwork for the couple as individuals or groups. Small children can create artwork with kid-friendly, non-toxic paints. The party should be held at least a week in advance so paintings have time to dry. After drying, paintings can be protected with a coat of acrylic fixative or galkyd medium. Galkyd medium is an oil-based topcoat and requires days to dry.
Handmade Cookbook
-
Grandma's potato salad recipe does not have to be a secret any longer. The maid of honor and best man can walk through the guests at the reception asking for family recipes. Recipe cards and pens can also be placed on every table at the reception with a small note explaining the wedding gift. After all cards are collected, place them in an ornamental recipe box and tie with a ribbon.
