Wedding Color Ideas: Red & Blue thumbnail
A red and blue theme offers endless ideas for your wedding decor.

Unless the theme of your wedding is patriotic, the idea of having a red and blue color theme might seem difficult to pull off. However, there is a plethora of ways to incorporate these two colors into your wedding décor without making it look like a tribute to the Fourth of July. Using different shades of each color in an untraditional manner creates a look that's both elegant and classic without becoming too overwhelming. If you aren't satisfied with the way one shade of blue looks with your favorite shade of red all you have to do is choose another shade of blue to change the look 100 percent.

  1. Accent Color

    • Choose either red or blue as your primary color and let the other color work its accent magic. If you choose to make the primary color of your wedding a shade of light blue, use red roses in your bouquets or red crystals as accents in your centerpieces. Personalize your beverage napkins by using light blue napkins embossed with your name and wedding date in red. Personalize your cocktail hour with a signature red cocktail in a blue martini glass or kick up your bridal party attire a notch by placing your bridesmaids in blue dresses with a vibrant red shoe.

    Candy Bar

    • Dessert bars are all the rage for weddings. Use your two shades of blue and red to create a one of a kind look for your dessert table. Use one color for the table linen and the other for all of your desserts and candies. Fill vases with only red or blue candy, cookies and other delicious treats and use your personalized red and blue napkins to further decorate your dessert table. Create a different look by choosing to incorporate your colors into your candy bar station by having two dessert tables; a red table and a blue table.

    Centerpieces

    • Use both red and blue to decorate your table by separating the colors. For tables with tall centerpieces choose flowers that are one color and place small votive candles in the other color around the table for added ambiance. Furthermore, if you plan to use red flowers opt for a pale blue table linen and silver table settings; using white settings with blue linens and red flowers could create an American Flag look to each of your tables.

    Cakes

    • A decadent cake is one of the most important aspects of any wedding reception. Not only must your wedding cake look like a work of art it has to taste like one. Use your creativity when creating the perfect cake; ask your baker for her opinion and insight to help come up with a red and blue cake that will have your guests talking long after your wedding is over. Choose just the right shades of red and blue or choose a completely neutral shade and add color to the cake by having your baker place red and blue flowers cascading down one side of your cake.
