Whether you are a Christian who has just become a mother, or a mother who has just decided to start living as a Christian, you will want to follow some basic guidelines. In a Christian family, each member should put God first in all situations. A few rules and guidelines can help you be a Christian mother without losing your identity.

  1. Children

    • As a Christian mother, your main job in life is to serve God and teach your children to do the same. Your children need to be taught to respect you and your husband and to understand that as their parents, you are king and queen of the house. You are not a servant to them, and they should be taught to be helpful and responsible.

    Teaching Younger Women

    • As a Christian mother it is your duty to teach younger women in your family and church by example how to be a Christian mother and wife. You can do this by showing mutual respect in your marriage, and demanding respect and responsibility from your children. Give Christian advice to any young women who ask it of you. Make it clear that they don't have to lose themselves doing womanly duties, but that they can be proud of their service, first to God and then their families.

    Nurturer

    • As the mother you will need to nurture your children, and to teach them to be future nurturers of God and family. Sometimes men are less equipped to nurture children who are learning and growing. Nurturing includes feeding, clothing, teaching, and caring for sick or injured children.

    Keeper of the Home

    • You are the queen of your home and you need to show pride in organization and chores of the home. Traditionally, men provide financially and women are expected to keep the home. Nowadays many women are mutual or main financial providers. If you are one of the providers in your family it is perfectly acceptable to expect help from husbands, children, and outside sources such as a housekeeper or a member of your extended family. n any case, children should have household chores to help them learn respect and responsibility.
