Choosing a diaper service could be the best option.

Becoming a parent can be an overwhelming experience with many challenges that arise and decisions to make. From deciding between breast feeding and formula or the best car seat to choose, it can be a very stressful time for a parent. One important decision you will deal with several times every day is diapers. There are advantages and disadvantages to a diaper service that you should consider before deciding to go in this direction.

  1. Health Concerns

    • Every parent's goal is to have a healthy, happy baby. One way to keep them this way is to reduce the chance for uncomfortable conditions like rashes. The use of disposable diapers can increase the likelihood that your baby will get a rash. In a study conducted by the Journal of Pediatrics, 54 percent of babies one month old that use disposable diapers had rashes. Cloth diapers still can cause a rash if not changed frequently enough but the odds are much lower.

    Environmental Impact

    • The impact to the environment from disposable diapers is very significant. It is estimated that as much as 80,000 pounds of plastic and more than 200,000 trees are used to manufacture disposable diapers for babies in the U.S. every year. In contrast, a diaper service uses re-usable cloth diapers that are washed. These diapers also do not end up in landfills where millions of tons of disposable diapers are thrown.

    The Dirty Work

    • You can purchase cloth diapers and wash them out yourself but a diaper service will do the dirty work for you. Every week they show up at your home with a fresh package of clean diapers and take away the dirty ones. You never have to deal with washing them yourself.

    Traveling Convenience

    • Disposable diapers are more convenient when traveling as you can simply throw away the used diaper after changing. If you use a diaper service you have to carry the soiled diaper with you until you get home.

    Changing Frequency

    • Disposable diapers are much more absorbent than cloth diapers from a diaper service. This means you do not have to change the baby as frequently, which is an advantage is you are either traveling or somewhere where it is inconvenient to change the diaper.
