Decorating Ideas for a Sea Wedding
The sea conjures thoughts of romance for many people, and if you are one of them, you might be thinking of exchanging nuptials at a sea-themed wedding. Your wedding can be conducted at the ocean, but if you don't want a destination wedding, decorate your reception site with a beach theme to convey the same romantic feel. Choose your wedding colors in keeping with the theme, such as blues or greens with ivory or beige; this will ensure you can use the sea's colors for decorating without clashing with your wedding colors.

Narrow Your Theme
-
Even if "sea themed" sounds specific enough, you will need to define your wedding's theme more narrowly. You want to avoid having lighthouses, mermaids, boats and dolphins all in the same room. Instead, choose one or two items, such as seashells and pearls, or sandcastles and sand-dollars, and decorate accordingly. Make the theme clear to everyone in the bridal party and anyone who might be helping with decorating to keep all of the details coordinated.
Cake and Serving Tables
-
Your wedding cake will be the center of attention for a portion of your reception, so talk with your cake decorator about designing a cake to match your theme. A sea-themed topper, such as one made from shells or one with the bride and groom dressed in beach attire is a quick way to coordinate the cake with the rest of the décor. Don't forget to place some decorations on the cake table and other serving tables, too. A few conch shells, toy boats, or beach flowers will be enough to get the idea across.

Sea Centerpieces
-
The reception tables will need to be decked out with a sea theme, and there are simple centerpieces to suit any style. Use shallow platters with sand, seashells and candles, or create sea-themed wreaths from sea-grass. For an easy, yet sophisticated centerpiece, arrange several sizes of glass Japanese fishing floats on the table and weave a strand of white lights around them. Collect items from a local beach, clean them and polish them, or use faux items from craft stores for your centerpieces.
Netting
-
Hang flowers instead of lures on fish netting for attractive wall-hangings. For a decoration that won't be intrusive, yet can adorn a large portion of wall space, use rope netting. The nets can be cut to whatever size you would like and hung wherever there is space. Add extra embellishments such as beach flowers for an elegant look, or sand buckets and shovels for a more whimsical style. Hang the netting like hammocks and fill them with glass baubles. You can even use a little netted hammock as your greeting card box.
