Accountant
-
An accountant oversees all financial information for a company or person. They are in charge of recording and analyzing financial information, and making recommendations on how to manage the company or person's finances. They also are in charge of filing taxes to maximize any returns or minimize any money owed to the government, and for creating and presenting financial reports and forecasts. Accountants also develop and manage budgets. They might oversee a team at larger companies, or work alone for a smaller company.
Controller
-
A controller is another job option for someone with an accounting and bookkeeping background. Controllers work for companies and essentially control the company's money. They are responsible for approving and recording company expenses, and for paying all company expenses in a timely manner. Controllers also ensure that all money owed to the company is paid for, and take action when invoices remain unpaid. They often are responsible for submitting payroll information to the company's payroll service so all employees get paid on time.

Accounting Clerks
-
Accounting clerks are employees that work under the supervision of a company's accountant, controller or financial executive. They do the leg work in the accounts payable or accounts receivable departments. Accounts payable clerks ensure that all money owed by the company is paid on time and accurately, and record the information into the company's financial database. They also are in charge of communicating regularly with third party vendors about the financial relationship with the company, and assist in closing out each month and year financially for the company. Accounts receivable clerks perform similar duties, only they insure the company is paid money that is owed, rather than work with money the company owes someone else.
