Methodists are one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, according to the American Religious Identification Survey conducted by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2001. To meet the ministry needs within the Methodist church, there are a number of grants available to Methodist seminary students to help them pay for their degree and prepare them for ministry.

  1. Bossey Scholarship Grant

    • Seminary students of the United Methodist Church can apply for a grant to help pay for seminary. Students who have been accepted into the seminary graduate program at the Bossey World Council of Churches Ecumenical Institute can apply for a grant. The General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns awards a partial scholarship grant to one United Methodist seminary student per semester. The amount of the grant varies.

Candidates for the grant must be enrolled in a seminary approved by the United Methodist Church's University Senate, and must intend to serve in a professional capacity within Missouri's United Methodist Church. Full-time grants and half-time grants are awarded to students based on the number of credit hours being taken, in combination with the number of years of having studied in the program. The amount of the grant varies.

Missouri United Methodist Foundation Seminary Scholars Grant

    • Students attending a Methodist seminary can apply for the Missouri United Methodist Foundation Seminary Scholars Grant. Candidates for the grant must be enrolled in a seminary approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church, and must have the intention of being ordained into full-time ministry in Missouri's United Method Church. Also, candidates will intend to serve in Missouri for at least five years in full-time ministry after ordination. As of 2011, grants for full-time students were $3,000 and $1,500 for part-time students. The maximum amount a student may receive is $9,000 over six years.

    John Wesley Seminary Foundation Grant

    • The John Wesley Seminary Foundation Grant is for seminary students of the Free Methodist Church. Candidates for the grant must be members at a Free Methodist Church while receiving the grant, and must agree to devote their lives to full-time ministry in the Free Methodist Church for at least five years. If recipients of the grant do not fulfill the five-year service obligation, the grant then becomes a loan the student must repay. The amount of the award varies.
