Boys' Fashion
-
Teen boys in the '80s wore colors and patterns as bright and attention-grabbing as those in girls' fashion. Acid-wash jeans were popular, and hip-hop style made shiny parachute pants fashionable. Preppy boys wore clean business clothing, including blazers, bright polo shirts and sweaters tied around the neck. More rebellious teen boys wore ripped clothing or a denim jacket covered in patches.
Girls' Fashion
-
Neon color defines the hottest styles of teen girls' fashion in the '80s. One very popular look involved wearing tight neon legwarmers under a miniskirt and an oversized sweater. Teen girls of the '80s wore thick layers of makeup, particularly around their eyes, and bright blush to accentuate their cheekbones. Like their clothing, girls' makeup was strikingly colored.

Hair
-
Both boys and girls in the '80s teased their hair out, wearing it long and high. They used hair spray, typically Aqua Net, to keep their large hairstyles in place. For teen boys, mullets were a fashionable hairstyle in the '80s; a mullet featured long, shoulder-length hair in the back and teased hair cut shorter in the front. Large bangs, side ponytails and asymmetrical straight cuts were all popular among teen girls.
Accessories
-
Teen girls wore a large number of accessories in the '80s---necklaces, earrings and rings were more fashionable if they were large, chunky and brightly colored. Numerous films, TV shows and music videos featured Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, and teens consequently adopted them as a fashionable style for both boys and girls.
