Inexpensive Flower Girl Baskets
Flower girls carry flower baskets with petals or small bouquets of flowers down the aisle during a wedding. Sometimes they scatter flowers and sometimes not. When you opt to have your flower girl scatter petals at the wedding you'll need an attractive flower basket for her. Most store-bought flower baskets tend to be on the expensive side, but this is an unnecessary expense. A pretty and serviceable flower girl basket is easy to put together from any basket or container.

Re-purposed Easter Basket
-
Anyone with kids or young relatives has an old Easter basket lying around. These larger baskets are perfect for young flower girls to carry down the aisle. If your basket doesn't fit the wedding color theme, consider painting it white with acrylic paint. Let the basket dry in a ventilated area. Wrap the handle in silk ribbon and use silky lining inside the basket. Flower petals, real or faux, can rest atop the lining.
Bucket Baskets
-
A small metal bucket makes a basket in the country-themed wedding. These small items are easy to find at dollar stores and hold just enough petals for the flower girl to cast in front of the bride. You can also purchase extra buckets to hold lit candles, stow the wedding favors in, and hold small centerpieces. Tie a pretty bow around the handle to decorate it or wrap a bow around the handle with plenty of extra length hanging down either side of the basket.

Origami Tote Basket
-
Select a piece of paper 12 inches by 12 inches. Fold in half diagonally to create a large triangle. Fold the front top flap down until the tip touches the bottom of the triangle. Crease, then unfold. Fold the left side of the triangle over 2/3 the length of the triangle. Repeat with the right. Flip the paper. Fold in half vertically. Cut a small slit about 1 1/2 inches from the top edge in a diagonal line to the side edge. Unfold the paper. Fold down the small flap created by the slit and glue in place. Flip the paper and repeat. You have a cute origami basket. Fill with flowers.
Sewn Bag
-
Make a small bag to serve as the flower basket. The pattern is simple. Cut out a piece of fabric 13 inches by 26 inches. Fold, right sides together, in half lengthwise. Sew up the sides. Fold down the top open edge about 1 inch and sew to create a tunnel, leaving 1 inch of open section to run a drawstring through. Pick a nice piece of ribbon for the drawstring. Run it through the tunnel. Tie off and turn the bag right side out. This bag works well for flower girls who throw rice or birdseed instead of flower petals.
