Christmas Holiday Party Checklist & Menu thumbnail
Holiday candles are a great place to start decorating.

Deck the halls and celebrate the season by gathering friends for food, drinks and fun. Serve fare that evokes the holiday spirit. Decorate your home to fit the occasion. Invite friends you have not seen in a while as well as coworkers and acquaintances you see everyday. This is a time for food and togetherness. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Themed Drinks

    • Spread holiday cheer by matching your drink menu to the theme of the party and season. Spruce up regular apple cider by heating additional cinnamon and cloves over the stove --- the scent will fill your house longer than any scented candle. Serve the cider in a large punch bowl with a ladle. If you are serving alcohol, offer hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. Another holiday favorite is eggnog mixed with amaretto, and topped off with a cinnamon stick. Buy holiday-themed swizzle sticks or wine glass charms to differentiate guest's glasses.

    Finger Food

    • You do not need to serve a sit-down dinner at a Christmas party. Make appetizers that your guests can eat while mingling. Some ideas include bacon-wrapped dates, spinach puffs or dip served with crackers, baked clams, crab cakes and rice balls. These are all warm, easy to eat and appropriate for late autumn.

    Cookies and Treats

    • No holiday party is complete without Christmas cookies. Bake sugar cookies covered in red and green sprinkles, or with strawberry jam baked in the middle. Cut them into shapes such as trees, bells or ornaments. Have guests participate in a party activity by inviting them to decorate cookies before you put them in the oven.

    Ambiance

    • Decorate your home with garlands, wreaths and mistletoe. Buy holiday-themed plates, napkins and cups, and make a Christmas playlist that includes contemporary songs as well as standards from the the 1930s and 1940s.
