Texas Southern Baptist Scholarships
Southern Baptists in Texas can use their church affiliation to earn scholarships to attend schools throughout the state. Offered by both Christian schools and private organizations, these scholarships help fund, or partially fund, a student's education. Many scholarships require students to study at a Christian college or university in the state. Others require students to pursue a career in Christian ministry.

Mary Hill Davis Ethnic Minority Scholarship Program

The Baptist General Convention of Texas administers the Mary Hill Davis Ethnic Minority Scholarship Program. The Women's Missionary Union of Texas provides funding for these scholarships. Minority students who want to study at a Christian Texas college or university and who plan to work as lay or vocational ministry leaders in Texas Baptist churches are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their pastor as well as their transcripts indicating a cumulative B average. Full-time students earned $1,600 an academic year for the 2010 scholarship competition, while part-time students earned $800 a year.
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Scholarships

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth provides a theological education for students interested in working in the Christian ministry. The school offers a general scholarship to students who can demonstrate a financial need. Students have to maintain a 2.0 grade point average and take classes on a full-time basis, which means 10 hours a week for graduate students and 12 hours a week for undergraduate students. In addition, applicants have to be employed, though the position or industry does not matter, to qualify for the scholarship.

Southern Baptists of Texas Convention

The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention offers scholarships to Southern Baptist students in the state. Students who earn these scholarships have to attend college in the state associated with the convention: Criswell College in Dallas and Jacksonville College in Jacksonville. Applicants have to be in good standing with their Southern Baptist church, meaning they actively participate in their church, and be full-time students with at least a 2.5 GPA. Students must discuss their salvation experience as part of their scholarship application.
Hispanic Initiative Grant

The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention also offers a Hispanic initiative grant as a part of its Hispanic Initiative and Ethnic Ministries division. Students can find funding for the undergraduate or graduate education through this grant. Hispanic Baptists in Texas can use their grant monies to study at one of three schools: Criswell College, Jacksonville College or Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. As its name implies, grant recipients have to be Hispanic and plan to work in the Baptist ministry upon graduation.
