Pastor Appreciation Crafts for Kids to Do

Showing appreciation for the teachings and guidance of your pastor is something that can be done throughout the year, but it's especially welcome in October. October is Clergy Appreciation Month, which gives churchgoers an opportunity to let their pastors know how important they are. Kids in church can build a variety of crafts in Sunday school to present to their pastor.

  1. Banner

    • Sunday school kids can create a large banner and decorate it with pictures and messages to present to their pastor during Clergy Appreciation Month. A Sunday school leader can cut a large piece of paper into a rectangular banner shape. The size should be dependent on the number of kids who will be working on it. The group can paint a large slogan such as "Thank you" or the pastor's name along the length of the banner, then add their names and messages for the pastor. In younger Sunday school classes, students can dip their hands in paint and put hand prints beside their names.

    Scrapbook

    • A pastor may enjoy reflecting on the children to whom he has provided guidance. In this case, a scrapbook can be an appropriate gift during Clergy Appreciation Month. In the months leading up to October, Sunday school leaders can take a variety of photos in their classes and at church functions. These photos can be printed and added to a scrapbook. Children can write their names and messages in the scrapbook beside their images.

    Greeting Card

    • Many adults may give their pastor a thank you card during Clergy Appreciation Month, but children in Sunday school can go a step further by creating an enormous card of appreciation. This card can be made of two pieces of Bristol board taped together on one side to form a spine. Then, each child can decorate the card with notes of thanks. Like the banner, children can agree on a main message that can be painted onto the card, then each can write her own individual message.

    Quilt

    • A quilt can be a useful gift with two applications. It can be hung on a wall as a colorful decoration or used on a couch or bed as a source of warmth. Cut out a number of squares for each child in the class to decorate. The children could decorate them by cutting their names out of felt and gluing them onto a square or by adding other decorations and writing messages with fabric pens to the pastor. Once every square is complete, they can be sewed together to form a quilt.
