Ideas for a Scottish Wedding
You might be interested in having a Scottish wedding because either you or your beloved is of Scottish heritage, or you admire Scottish culture. You don't have to go all the way to Scotland to throw a Scottish wedding, but you can bring many of its traditions into your special day.

While grooms often wear tuxedos to their weddings, if you want to have a Scottish wedding, you might want the groom to wear a kilt. Besides the kilt, the groom can wear a dress shirt, a jacket, chain strap, kilt hose, a satin bow tie and a kilt pin. Other accessories include a Celtic or clan belt buckle, and a ceremonial sheathed knife called a sgian dubh. The bride may wear a traditional wedding dress, but add a tartan to it. Other bridal dress options include an elaborately beaded gown embroidered with Celtic knots, and an arisaid, a traditional Scottish outer garment reaching from the neck to the ankles that fastens with a belt at the waist and on the breast with a brooch.
Wedding Favors
-
Provide small bottles of Scottish whiskey to the wedding guests to help them loosen up before giving a speech or dancing. Obtain Scottish thistles and tie each guest's name to one with a tartan ribbon around the stem for a wedding memento. Give guests treats, such as individually wrapped pieces of Scottish shortbread, or tiny pots of Scottish honey.

Music
-
Hire a band that is well-versed in playing traditional Scottish music. The wedding party will get into the spirit when they hear the atmospheric, high-pitched bagpipes calling. Your hired piper can play while escorting the bride and groom into the church before the ceremony, as well as afterward to announce their arrival to the reception.
Decorations
-
Use tartans and crests from different Scottish clans on the tablecloths of the guest tables at the reception to differentiate them from one another. Include a written description of each clan on the table. Incorporate clan plant badges, which are plants worn by different clans to represent themselves, into floral table decorations or the bridal bouquet.
