Some people aim to date as many people as they can, just for fun. The purpose of dating for these people is to have fun and meet as many people as they can. However, while a Christian may also enjoy dating and may date more than one person, his purpose in dating is to find a suitable mate for marriage. While many people date with the idea of finding someone to marry, marriage is the primary focus for Christians in the dating world.

The Bible teaches that Christians should not become intimate with any person other than their spouse. Therefore, despite the world views on sexual relations, a Christian should aim to keep herself pure through the dating process. This can be one of the most difficult aspects of being a Christian in the dating world. The world says that it is ok to be intimate with anyone you want to. A Christian will encounter those who do not share her views and may try to pressure her into a physical relationship. Holding to Christian values can be difficult if she is not dating someone with the same views.

The divorce rate has grown higher in recent years. The Bible teaches Christians that divorce is wrong and should only be done in instances of abuse and infidelity. Marriage is a lifelong commitment to each other, promised before God. However, the world views divorce as an easy way out when things have become difficult in the marriage or two people "fall out of love." These are not valid reasons in the eyes of God. When a Christian dates, he should be looking for the woman with whom he can spend the rest of his life.

When a Christian is seeking someone to date, finding someone with the same beliefs can go a long way toward a successful relationship. One of the most important aspects of any relationship is respect. This also means respect for the other person's beliefs. The Bible instructs Christians to seek out a spouse who is also a Christian to avoid unnecessary temptation. Dating or marrying a non-Christian can ultimately hurt a Christian's faith. When a couple shares the same beliefs, they can attend church together and enjoy all of the benefits of having this strong tie in the faith.
