Persian Wedding Gifts

The ancient culture of Persia now occupies modern-day Iran.

Choosing a wedding gift for a Persian couple is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not only their marriage, but their culture, as well. Persia, now known as Iran, has been home to numerous skilled individuals who have contributed much to the world with regard to religion, cuisine, art, music and literature--all of which are jumping-off points for choosing that perfect present.

  1. Muslim Items

    • Since the vast majority of Iranians are Muslim, consider gifts that honor Islam for the couple who are practicing members. Matching prayer rugs, an ornate copy of the Quran or bismallah prayer beads are all options for the couple. An elaborate Azan clock for their new home is a thoughtful gift, as well. The worldwide Azan clock can be set to any time zone in the world and has separate alarms to announce each of the five daily prayer times observed by Muslims.

    Kitchen Items

    • Consider giving the Persian couple any number of items for use in the kitchen. A large, colorful cookbook containing Persian recipes is an option. "Food of Life: Ancient Persian and Modern Iranian Cooking and Ceremonies" by Najmieh Batmanglij was released in a 4th edition in March, 2011. "A Taste of Persia" by the same author is another option. A spice rack containing spices and herbs commonly used in Iranian cuisine is another option. Include turmeric, saffron, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.

    Persian Artwork

    • With a long and rich tradition as artists, Persians have produced several revered works in a variety of mediums. Purchase a piece that will remind the couple of home every time they look at it. Reproductions of famous paintings, Persian miniatures, decorative enameled boxes or a quality Persian rug are all options.

    Handmade Gifts

    • If you are gifted when it comes to creating homemade items, make something for the couple yourself. Consider a cross-stitched or embroidered wall hanging or pillow with a picture of a desert nature scene, palm trees and a fountain or a famous mosque. If you're pressed for time, create a gift basket containing tea from a Middle Eastern grocery, sugar cubes and honey to represent the sweetness of marriage and to sweeten the tea, two tea cups or a Persian tea set for the couple to use and a jar of gold-wrapped chocolate coins to represent the wealth and prosperity you wish them in their marriage.
