Bartending in Wisconsin requires proper licensure.

If you wish to tend bar in Wisconsin, state law requires you to complete an approved responsible beverage server training course. In addition, you must be at least 18 years of age and meet criminal record requirements. The criminal record requirements are different in the various municipalities. You must obtain an operator license from each municipality in which you wish to work and you can obtain each license after successfully completing the Wisconsin Alcohol Seller-Server course. The local city clerk is responsible for issuing licenses.

The course covers customer service, mixology (mixing drinks) and the alcohol awareness certification. The course may be taken during the day, evening or on weekends and can be completed in one or two weeks. The Academy assists with job placement.

    • Servingalcohol.com's course is offered online and requires two to four hours to complete. It is compliant with the governing statutes and is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Topics covered include intoxication, proper method of checking identification, and the responsibilities and liabilities of the server. It takes about four hours to complete and is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
