Signs a Teen Is Out of Control
Many people are aware of the fact that raising teenagers is certainly no walk in the park. After all, the teen years are generally considered to be a time of rebellion, stubbornness and defiance. However, it is essential for parents to be able to distinguish between typical teenage behavior and cases that are, simply put, out of control.

Violence
-
Violence is one of the biggest warning signs that a teenager is indeed spiraling down an out of control path. Whether the violence is inflicted towards peers at school or at other members of the family, violence signifies a larger problem at hand. This is especially true for violence that is accompanied by severe fits of range or anger towards others.
Substance Abuse
-
If you are aware of or suspect that your child is abusing any substances, such as alcohol or drugs, you are thus experiencing a red flag for an out of control teenager. From underage drinking and smoking marijuana to abusing over-the-counter medications, there are many ways in which teenagers can easily abuse substances. This is particularly relevant for teenagers that develop addictions to substances.

School Problems
-
If a parent should discover that their child's grades have slipped dramatically, or that their child is either continually late to class, or perhaps even skips it entirely, they most likely are dealing with an out of control teenager. If a teenager is skipping nights of homework and reading textbooks for late night partying, their life is likely spiraling further and further out of control. Behavioral problems in school such as expulsion and detention can also signify a major issue.
Legal Problems
-
One of the most glaringly clear signs that a teenager is becoming more and more out of control is run-ins with the law. Whether the teenager was warned by a police officer for driving while intoxicated or for making too much noise or causing a disruption in a public area, all signs point to an extremely troubled path in life.
Withdrawn Behavior
-
Teenagers that are behaving particularly withdrawn also might be feeling out of control or helpless. If you suspect that your teenager might be feeling depressed or perhaps even suicidal, it is very important that you talk to him and get him counseling or medical assistance as soon as possible.
