4th Grade Math Fair Projects
If a child does not learn basic math concepts well before advancing, she will often find it very difficult to catch up in later grades. Teaching math to 4th grade students requires both an understanding of the topic and of children at this age. One way to spark their interest in math is to have a math fair. There are a number of aspects to carrying out this project.
-
Purpose
-
When you are first discussing putting on a science math fair with the other staff, you should decide on the goals for the event. Aside from letting the children compete and get excited about math, you can also invite the parents of the children to the fair to encourage their children and to see exactly what the school is doing to promote learning.
Student Projects
-
Once you have decided to actually hold science fair, you need to have the students select projects. To make it easier for the students to make a selection, you could post a list of possible projects for them to choose from. All projects not on the list should be run by the instructor for approval. Once they get the green light, the student goes forward with the project, consulting with the instructor when he or she needs help.

Organizing
-
If there is a single class involved, then organizing is simple with the teacher being in charge of the entire thing. If several classes are involved, you have to decide if each teacher will be solely responsible for their part of the fair, or if some activities, such as setting up tables and displays, will be a joint effort.
Location and Setup
-
While it would be best to hold the math fair in a single room, depending on how many classes and students are involved, it might be necessary to break it up into multiple rooms or take it to the school auditorium. Regardless of the location, make sure that all props, tables and other equipment are in place before the fair.
