Line Art Lessons
Line art is art based around the idea of lines. Much of line art has to do with creating patterns and using lines to create designs. Lines and corners are important pieces of art projects like paintings in general, but can also be art on their own. Several types of art projects use line art as a base and can be completed at any age level and any level of drawing or art expertise.

Patterns Projects
-
Students should use lines to create patterns. Begin with one type of line in the center of the page, and continue to encircle that line with similar lines. For instance, make a line shape such as a parallelogram, and then outline it again and again with the same pattern. Continue to do this until the page is full. Or, create several line images and then copy them over and over to fill up the page.
Etch a Sketch
-
Etch a Sketch art is art that is only created in lines. Students must be very creative in order to figure out how to get from one place to another using lines and corners. Although you can make curves with an etch a sketch, concentrate on the lines and corners that it can produce to create your design. This art has the added element of requiring the student to think ahead, as each of the pieces of the drawing must be connected in some way.

Lines In Life
-
Lines are all around us in everyday life. Send students into the world to find and recreate lines all around them. Stairs, walls, doorways, floors, and buildings are all composed of lines. Students should try to draw or recreate the strict lines that they can see in a particular world view.
Intersecting Lines
-
When lines intersect, they form corners and angles. Students should go out into the world and find these intersecting lines. They are found in the corners of buildings, or in stairways or just about anywhere else that you can imagine. Have students mimic these designs and create a drawing based on the intersection. Remind them that technically, a line continues without an end, so they can add that element to their art as well.
