There are many after school activities in Orlando.

Orlando, Florida has a large number of after school activities in which kids and teenagers can grow both mentally and physically. Sports programs, volunteer opportunities, and cultural arts programs are just a few examples of good after school activities.

  1. Individual Style Sports

    • One after school activity in Orlando is individual sports. Individual sports like swimming, track and field, or ice skating events are available at several different programs around Orlando.

The city's After School All Stars is one program that offers both after school and summer camp individual sport activities. The All Stars offers swimming, golf, ice skating and track and field classes and competitions throughout the school year. The programs are aimed at elementary and middle school students, and are free.

    Volunteering

    • Kids can help their community by volunteering. Many city departments in Orlando accept after school volunteers. Green-Up Orlando plants trees and other plants, and assists in park cleanup around the city. The program joins forces with civic groups, major corporations, religious organizations and school programs to raise public awareness on environmental issues. Eligible applicants should be at least 15 years of age or accompanied by an adult, and must apply to be accepted into the program.

    Cultural Arts

    • Popular after school activities also include painting, drawing or dancing. The Orlando School of Cultural Dance offers lessons in ballet, African dance, jazz, drumming, and hip hop. The program also has a homework tutoring service. The school is open to students ages 3 and up, and is also open to adults. After school programs at the School of Cultural Dance are Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Unlimited dance lessons cost $200 per month, while individual classes are $50.

    Team Sports

    • The YMCA offers team sports at multiple locations, including basketball, baseball, flag football, cheerleading, soccer and even synchronized swimming. The YMCA takes an educational approach to sports, teaching kids about teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship. Sports are offered not only as instructional courses, but also as competitive events. Leadership roles are also encouraged, most notably through courses like Junior Lifeguarding and parent-child teamwork activities. Membership at the YMCA is open and free for children.
