Grants for Culinary Schools
Students attending a culinary arts school have the opportunity to receive funding through several educational grant and scholarship programs. Scholarships and grants to help students attend culinary school come from a variety of different sources. While some grant programs are available to culinary students throughout the nation, others are limited to students from a specific geographical area.

James Beard Foundation Scholarships

The James Beard Foundation makes educational grant money available to students attending culinary schools throughout the United States. James Beard Foundation scholarships are awarded in amounts that vary by year. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, letters of recommendation, work experience and financial need. Although awards are not renewable, a student may apply for a scholarship every year that they meet the eligibility requirements. The annual deadline for application is May 15.
The National Italian American Foundation Scholarship Program

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers grant support to culinary school students through the NIAF Scholarship Program. In 2011 NIAF educational grants for students were awarded in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $12,000. These awards may only be used to pay for the cost of tuition and on-campus room and board. To be eligible, a student must be Italian-American, must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, and must be a citizen or permanent resident alien of the United States.

California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Scholarships

The California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF) offers annual scholarship support to culinary art students who are residents of California. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen of the United States, must have a GPA of at least 2.75, and must have a certain amount of industry-related work experience, depending on an applicant's year in school. Students attending a school outside California may still be eligible for CRAEF scholarships. The annual deadline for application is April 15.
Massachusetts Restaurant Association Scholarships

The Massachusetts Restaurant Association (MRA) offers several educational grants to culinary art students each year. In 2011 MRA educational grants were awarded in amounts of up to $2,000. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Massachusetts and a citizen of the United States, must have a high school diploma or a GED, and must have a grade point average of 2.65 or above. The annual deadline for application is April 15.
