Suprise your little one with a tea party.

Tea parties are a favorite birthday party theme for kids and with good reason. At a tea party, kids can use their imagination, dress up and have fun. New York is home to businesses that offer tea parties where children can enjoy tea, desserts and even some giggles. Some locations will even bring the party to you. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Alice's Tea Cup

    • Alice's Tea Cup has three tea room locations in New York City that serve a full English tea service with teas from around the world. In addition, they offer a healthy menu with made-to-order sandwiches, desserts and scones with cream and preserves. They hold kids' parties at each location on Monday through Friday all day and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after 3:00 p.m., as of winter 2011. Two of the locations offer private rooms that you can rent for parties of a minimum of two hours. For an extra charge, a face-painter, a magician or the Mad Hatter and Alice appear at the party. Alice's Tea Cup provides birthday cake and goodie bags if you ask in advance.

    Sugar & Spice

    • Sugar & Spice in Baldwinsville offers a tea-party planning service that you can have brought to your home, local park or other area location. At a regular tea party, every child is given a hat and gloves and can enjoy cookies with a cup of tea. After tea time, the group plays an umbrella balance game and digs in a jewelry box. You can design your tea party to fit the theme of your choice, including an enchanted fairy party, where fairy princesses go on an imaginary adventure to find butterflies; or a princess party that includes a makeover session and fashion show.

    Tiny Tots Tea Rooms

    • Celebrate your little princess's birthday at the Tiny Tots Tea Room in Clifton Park, where she and her guests can enjoy an extravagantly "enchanting" princess tea party. Upon arrival, all the guest decorate a picture frame to take home. They dress up in gowns, tiaras, hats, shoes and boas. After the princesses are dressed, they are pampered with perfume, nail polish and make-up. Each princess will get her picture taken, along with a group photo. Everyone will enjoy tea, appetizers, cheese, crackers, sandwiches, cupcakes and candies. At the end of every party, each guest can dig into the Royal Treasury to choose a party favor to take home.

    Tori's Place

    • Tori's Place in Port Washington offers a "fairies and wizards" tea party where boys can dress up as wizards and girls as fairies. Children do an arts and crafts project to take home, get their faces painted and dance under disco lights. They have their own tea party where they can eat bagels or pizza, drink water, soda or juice and sing "Happy Birthday" to the birthday girl or boy. A super deluxe package is available that includes extra snacks, balloons, goody bags, cupcakes or cake, coffee, tea and cookies and a framed group picture from the party. Every package includes invitations for the birthday child to send to his friends.
