After kids have grown tired of playing with all their toys and watched far too much TV, it is time to find them something else to occupy their time in a fun and creative way. From sports to crafts and cooking, there are many things kids can find to occupy their time after school or simply to get them through the doldrums of winter.

  1. Play Lacrosse

    • Lacrosse is a team sport similar to soccer. It consists of two teams of eight to 10 players each, with one being a goalie. Lacrosse requires each player to use a lacrosse stick fitted with a small net on top for catching the ball. The object of the game is to throw, kick or bat the ball into the opponent's goal. Lacrosse players are not allowed to use their hands to touch the ball.

    Funny Face Light Switch Craft

    • Gather supplies for this fun project, including markers, self adhesive felt, scissors, switch plate, hot glue gun, googly eyes, and sticker earrings (if making a girl face). Draw parts of girl or boy face on self adhesive felt, cut out and remove backing. Press onto light switch cover. Leave backing on where felt hangs over light switch. Use hot glue gun to add accessories such as googly eyes and earrings.

    Bake Brownies

    • To make super rich chocolate brownies, you need: 2 cups sugar, four eggs, 3/4 cup cocoa, 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, 1 cup butter, 1/4 tsp. salt, shortening to grease pan, 8 or 9 inch square baking pan, bowl. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease pan with shortening. Melt butter. Stir cocoa and sugar together in bowl then add melted butter. Stir. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir. Add flour and salt mix until smooth (not too much). Pour the batter into the pan in an even layer. Bake in oven about 40 to 50 minutes. Let cool before cutting. Enjoy with friends and family!

    Head Outdoors

    • Local parks usually have playground equipment that is readily available to kids. Riding your bike to the park can be just as fun as playing at the park itself. A quick game of tag or race down the slides can provide hours of fun. Park districts also have a variety of activities for children to sign up for, from organized sports activities to music and dance classes.
