Valentine's Day is a time for chocolate, hearts and love. For classrooms everywhere, it also means parties and the exchange of Valentine's cards. Girls and boys of almost any age group typically need some way to collect and take home these cards, which is where holders become useful.

Paper Bag Holder

A lunch-size paper bag makes a perfect Valentine's card holder. The bag can be decorated with construction paper hearts, heart-shaped candies, glitter or any other desired decoration, and can be left entirely open so Valentines can easily be placed in the bag. The other option is to create a mail slot by cutting out a rectangle in the side of the bag and stapling the top of the bag shut.
Shoe Box Holder

Make use of an old shoe box by creating a Valentine's card shoe box holder. Begin by cutting out a rectangular hole in the lid for a mail slot. Allow kids to cover the box in construction paper or Valentine-themed wrapping paper. Continue decorating the box by adding stickers, a paper cupid and hearts. Be sure to have each child write their name on their box so everyone knows who to deliver their Valentines to.

Valentine's Purse Holder

A Valentine's card purse holder is a fun project particularly for girls. Cut out two large hearts from cardstock or thin craft foam sheets and punch holes along the outer edges of the heart, making sure to stop about 3/4 of the way up in order to leave a slot open for cards. With the two hearts layered on top of each other, tie them together by threading yarn through the holes and tying off the yarn at each end. Tie another piece of yarn to the first hole on each side of the heart to create a handle.
Coffee Can Holder

A used coffee can makes a perfect Valentine's card holder. Cover the empty can in paper of your choice and secure with glue. Leave the lid on and cut a slot for Valentines or leave the lid off to make room for larger cards. Kids can decorate the can with anything they desire, including letter stickers to spell out their names, Valentine-themed stickers or heart-shaped doilies.
