Children will enjoy a mini pumpkin pie for dessert.

The menu for a children's Thanksgiving brunch can be simple, easy to make and inexpensive. Incorporate the children's favorite foods into the meal to ensure that they will enjoy their Thanksgiving feast. Turn the Thanksgiving brunch into a fun activity for children by allowing them to help make the food. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Turkey Sandwiches

    • Include turkey on your children's Thanksgiving menu without all the work of cooking a bird. Make a stack of tuna fish, ham and cheese, or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Cut out the middle of each sandwich in the shape of a turkey using a large mold or cookie cutter. Give each turkey sandwich a face using carrot slices, olives, and raisins. Children can enjoy their favorite type of sandwich with a fun Thanksgiving twist.

    Cranberry Jigglers

    • No thanksgiving menu is complete without cranberries of some form. Open a can of jellied cranberry sauce and cut it into 1/2 inch slices. Use pumpkin, turkey, and pilgrim shaped cookie cutters to cut shapes from each slice. Arrange the shapes on a platter and serve. Cranberry flavored Jell-O can be used instead of actual cranberry sauce. Prepare the Jell-O according to package instructions to make jigglers. Cut the Thanksgiving shapes out from the Jell-O once it has set.

    Homemade Butter

    • Teach your children about the first Thanksgiving by helping them make their own butter for their meal just as the pilgrims did. Pour 1 pint of heavy whipping cream into a clean jar or plastic container. Wash and dry 15 to 20 marbles and add them to the cream. Add a dash of salt and tightly secure the lid on the container. Have the children sit in a circle and take turn shaking the container for a few minutes. Soon the cream congeal and turn into butter. Drain any excess liquid and place the butter on a tray. Serve the butter on dinner rolls or pieces of bread during their Thanksgiving brunch.

    Mini Pumpkin Pies

    • Create individual mini pumpkin pie for each child to enjoy. Spray a muffin pan with non-stick spray and line each cup with ready made pie crust. Pour pumpkin pie batter into each pie shell and bake in a hot oven. Once the pies have cooled, carefully remove them from the pan. Add a spoonful of whip cream on top of each pie. Serve a pie to each child for dessert at the end of their brunch.
