Birthday Crafts for a Husband

Surprise him with a homemade gift this year.

Men are hard to buy for at gift giving holidays. Their needs are typically pretty basic and they are accustomed to providing for themselves. Consider making a craft for your husband's birthday this year. The time and effort spent on creating a one-of-a-kind just for him is worth more than money can buy.

  1. Braided Bracelet

    • All that is needed to create a braided bracelet is some embroidery floss. Choose his favorite colors, or use your wedding colors for a romantic touch. You should use three different colors and at least two pieces of floss for each color (use the two pieces of each color as a single, thicker strand). Braid the three color pieces together as you would braid hair. Assign a meaning to the colors you choose. For example, red could represent love, or blue could be used because it was your wedding color.

    Homemade Hammock

    • Surprise your hubby with a homemade hammock. Use a blanket or piece of canvas and accordion-fold it, as you would a paper fan. Several inches from each end, make a hole all the way through the layers of cloth. You may want to use a grommet kit to make the holes for a more finished look. Repeat on other end. Thread a piece of rope through the two holes, and tie the new hammock to a tree in the backyard.

    Personalized Memo Pad

    • Make your husband a memo pad adorned with your photo, your child's original artwork or his initials. Simply decorate the top of a piece of paper and take it to a or printer to be made into notepads. Pads can be purchased for as little as 50 cents each.

    No-sew Throw

    • To make a cozy no-sew throw, use two yards each of two coordinating pieces of fleece. Spread out and stack both pieces of fabric on top of each other with right sides facing out and pin them together. Cut the two pieces into a square at the same time so they are the same size. Cut slits 5 inches long and about 1 inch wide all around the four sides. Using one strip from the front and one strip from the back, overhand knot close to blanket edge to create a fringe.
