Tropical themed weddings are often held beachside.

Tropical-themed weddings are romantic and can add an exotic touch to your special day. An assortment of centerpieces work well with tropical themed weddings, many of which can be simply made. From simple designs to centerpieces that are a bit more glamorous, the right centerpiece can add beauty and elegance to your reception.

  1. Pail and Shovel

    • One of the simplest centerpieces for a tropical-themed reception is a traditional pail and shovel. Start with a simple silver sand pail and fill it with items of your choice. Heart-shaped chocolates, sea shells, fresh fruit or candied life savers work well. Place a metal shovel inside the pail and place the centerpiece in the middle of the table. Surround the pail and shovel with sand, tropical flower petals and small seashells for added effect.

    Floating Candles

    • Floating candles are another simple, yet elegant centerpiece idea for a tropical-themed wedding reception. Start by placing a blue glass bowl in the center of the table. Fill the bowl half way with water. Place a long-burning floating candle in the bowl, wick side up. Surround the glass bowl with sand or sea shells to complete the tropical look. Light the candles when it is time for guests to arrive.

    Seashell Candles

    • Seashell candles are an uncommon centerpiece that your guests can enjoy long after the reception has ended. Start with a medium-sized empty seashell. Using craft glue glue a wick onto the bottom center of the open side of the seashell. Once dry, pour melted wax into the shell, filling it half way. Allow the wax to set until solid. Place the shell in the center of the table and surround it with sand and smaller seashells of various colors. Light the candles when it is time for your guests to arrive.

    Colored Sand

    • Colored sand centerpieces are beautiful and are symbolic of two lives becoming one. Start by taking a glass vase, which can be either clear or blue. Fill the vase half way using colored sand in the shade of your choice. Using sand in a contrasting shade, fill the other half of the vase, stopping just before you reach the top. Surround the vase with additional sand and sea shells or tropical flower petals for added effect.
