Match the color of the invitations to the colors of the wedding

Wedding colors play a large role in a wedding, dictating an array of decisions, including floral arrangements, decorations, and even invitations. Individual preference, in particular the bride's, often carries more weight than other factors, but there are some other external factors that can have an important bearing on choosing wedding colors.

  1. Setting

    • Pick colors that coincide with the location of your wedding. If your wedding and reception are held in a tropical climate or garden, for instance, bright and vibrant colors tend to complement the vivid greens and pinks common to those types of locations. If your wedding and reception are held in a church or ballroom, softer, traditional colors complement the browns and reds common in these venues.

    Season

    • The season during which your wedding will occur can help determine what colors you should select for your wedding. Spring weddings favor less neutral colors like green, pink, and blue. Fall weddings favor more neutral colors like cream, maroon and brown. Traditional colors like white and black, on the other hand, tend to transcend season, making them a viable choice any time of the year.

    Decorations

    • Wedding decorations can often be used to complement the bride's and bridesmaids' dresses as well as the season and setting of the wedding. The colors do not necessarily have to be the same, but it is advisable to at least choose colors that complement the overall colors of the wedding. Yellows, greens, blues and pinks operate well together. Darker hues tend to go well with other darker hues.

    Floral Arrangements

    • Colors that match floral arrangements contribute to the continuity of the wedding, accenting and highlighting the overall color scheme. There is an overwhelming variety of floral arrangements to choose and an even larger variety among species of the same flower, so there should be available options to create a unified color arrangement. Red, orange and yellow complement a fall wedding, whereas blue, green and pink complement spring weddings.
