Simon Says
-
Simon Says is a good game for a 5 year old's birthday party because it has a basic concept with straightforward instructions. Start off with an adult being "Simon" and if all goes smoothly allow the winner of the first round to be "Simon" the second round. To play, "Simon" stands in front of the players and asks them to do things like touch there toes, dance in place or turn in a circle. The players only follow the instruction if you say "Simon says" before giving the instructions. Any players who follow instructions without hearing "Simon says" first are eliminated and the last person standing wins.
Pin the Tail On the Donkey
-
Pin the tail on the donkey is a good game for 5-year-old kids because it has easy-to-follow rules and most kids that age find the game to be funny. To play the game you need a large image of a donkey without a tail. You can make it with poster board, or buy a game board from a party store. Each kid gets a tail with double-sided tape. During his turn the child is blind-folded and turned in circles before the donkey. You stop turning him so he is facing the donkey and allow him to pin the donkey's tail on. The child who comes closest to wear the tail should be wins.

Arts and Crafts
-
Young children love to make things and be creative, so planning a craft is a good idea for a 5-year-old child's birthday party. You may consider doing something simple like coloring pages that relate to the theme of the party. You may also consider doing a craft they can take home with them such as having them each make a necklace from beads or pot a plant and decorate the pot. Decorating T-shirts with T-shirt markers or paints is also fun for 5 year olds.
Free Play
-
Allowing kids some free play at a birthday party can also help things go smoothly because it allows them time to unwind and blow off steam. Consider putting on some age-appropriate music encouraging the kids to dance or run around the yard. If you have your party at a playground or park you can let the kids play for 15 to 20 minutes between planned games, cake or presents.
