Decorated Birthday Cookies for Kids

Decorated cookies can enhance a party's theme.

Celebrating a child's birthday with cookies is a good replacement for a cake or addition to a cake. Cookies can be customized to fit the theme or made in several different designs to cover a group of themes for the party. Once baked, cookies do not require cutting so they add convenience of only needing to be distributed among your guests. Cookies can be decorated with store-bought icing or you can make royal icing for your cookie creation. Does this Spark an idea?

Sports
- Sports-themed cookies are perfect for children who are in athletics or are sports fans. These cookies can be made using football-themed cookie cutters and tinted royal icing to decorate them. Royal icing dries quickly and has a semi-shiny finish that will give your cookies a glossy look. The cookies can also be decorated with regular store-bought icing and a spatula.
Princess
- Most girls at some point in time find themselves in love with all things princess. Princess-themed cookies are ideal for this type of little girl. These cookies can be decorated as a single favorite princess or several different princesses if desired. You can also add various cookies to the princess theme including stars, carriages, castles, hearts or flowers.
Animals
- Animal themes are good for smaller children or children who are animal lovers. You can use different cookie cutters including monkeys, bears, frogs, birds or butterflies to create a specific theme or use a group of different cookies to create a jungle theme. Animal cookies can be matched with cookies in the theme of trees, flowers or people dressed in safari gear or as zoo keepers to create variety to the theme.
Cookie Pops
- Cookie pops are cookies baked on a Popsicle stick. These cookies can be made into any shape desired. The method of adding the stick to the cookie varies and can be done by either melting candy, putting candy on the stick and placing the stick on the back of the cookie until it hardens or placing the stick into the uncooked dough and letting the cookie bake around the dough. Once the cookie is cooled you can decorate it as desired.
