There are, by my count, at least seven levels of fried chicken. The worst of them is good; the best, which I waited forty-four years to find, led to what can only be called an out-of-body experience. Let’s start at …
Meals That Kids Can Make
You don't always have the time to make meals for your kids. Stock up on items that children can use to create their own meals and you can still get your tasks done without worrying about the children going hungry. Teaching your children how to make some safe and simple meals will also give them a sense of pride and allow them to be creative. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Sandwiches
-
Sandwiches are always yummy and simple for kids to make. They are also safe for kids, as they don't usually require using stoves or sharp knives if you have made all the necessary preparations. Have in your crisper all the things your kid can use to make a delicious sandwich such as pre-cut deli meats, condiments, pre-cut or packaged veggies like lettuce and tomatoes, as well as sliced cheeses or peanut butter and jelly. In a pinch your kid can grab some bread and load it with their favorite toppings when you're not there to make a meal.
Pasta
-
Pasta is another simple meals kids can grab for themselves. Teenagers can handle the task of boiling pasta on a stove and topping it with their favorite sauce. Pre-cook pasta for younger kids and have them heat it up with some sauce in the microwave for a minute. Teach your kids to use the microwave safely. Kids can also top their dishes with pre-cut vegetables, pre-cooked and cut meats and cheese.

Salads
-
Salads are another safe meal that kids will enjoy making and personalizing to their own tastes. Have lettuce pre-cut and ready in the crisper, along with other toppings such as slices of cooked chicken, bacon bits, veggies like tomatoes and carrots, and cheeses. Have a number of dressings on hand. Your child will love deciding exactly what to put on his salad.
Mini Pizza
-
Making mini pizzas doesn't require using the oven, which can be a danger to young children. Instead, use pre-baked flatbreads for the crust and let your kids create their own delicious pizza. Have shredded mozzarella available and pizza sauce, along with other toppings like mini pepperonis, pre-cut onions, mushrooms and other shredded cheeses. Kids can top flat breads and warm them in the microwave for a minute, then enjoy their own personal pizza.
