File-folder games keep your child occupied wherever you go.

File-folder games are simple activities to keep kids interested and occupied. A typical file-folder game consists of a laminated paper sheet and some cutouts. Parents can easily store the game and take it anywhere. There are a variety of file-folder games available on the Internet -- they only need to be printed out and laminated. Most of the file-folder games are stored online in PDF format and include all the necessary instructions.

  1. Number Games

    • Number games are file-folder activities designed to stimulate your child's mathematical abilities. "Add the numbers" is a four-page, file-folder game that teaches kids very simple addition problems. They can instantly check each problem to see if their answer is correct. "Watermelon Numbers" is a file-folder game that is more visual and thus suitable for younger kids. In this game, kids have to match the number of watermelon seeds to the correct watermelon slice. This file-folder game uses Velcro to keep everything neatly together.

    Letter Games

    • Teach your children the alphabet or new words with letter file-folder games. "Alphabet Hearts" is a letter game where the upper and lowercase versions of the letters have to be matched. "BaaBaa Black Sheep Letters" requires that the same kind of letters be matched to each other. Simply attach a group of letters to one side of the folder and keep the others in a pocket glued to the other side.

    Animal Games

    • Animal games not only help children with recognizing and learning the names of animals, but also make them practice their reading skills. "Farm Animals" requires children to match the animal name to its picture. Print the answers out and glue them to the back of the folder so the child can easily check if he is correct. "Noah's Animal Groups" teaches children to distinguish between mammals and reptiles as they sort different creatures into the appropriate section of Noah's ark.

    Shape Games

    • Shape games stimulate your child's pattern recognition skills. In "Christmas Tree Shape Match" the child has to match the trees by studying each one and making sure their shapes correspond exactly. Each tree features different shaped ornaments. In "Ship Shape" the shapes are located on the sails and the child has to match the ships accordingly.
