Business Image Consultant Tips

Business Image Consultant Tips thumbnail
A professional look can help a business' image.

A good image in the eye of the public is an important business goal. It shows that a business is trustworthy and has experienced a good measure of success. Businesses often use image consultants when they first open, to help boost sales or to help recover after an episode of negative media coverage. Take steps to boost your company's image without hiring an image consultant.

  1. A Good Company Name

    • A company's name should be short, easy to remember and recognize, and briefly describe the company. For example, if an individual named Penny opens a deli, she could name it "Penny's Sub Shop." A prospective customer can tell right away that this establishment sells sub sandwiches, and the business owner's name distinguishes this location from other area delis. If the current name is not producing results, acquire a new one.

    Sound Professional

    • Ask employees who answer phones at your company to state the name of the company, followed by their own name. For example, make it routine to say, "Monroe Insurance. This is Bill Monroe." Voicemail recordings should also convey a professional tone. Make your phone recording enthusiastic, short and easy to understand. Every missed call could be from a prospective new client. A recording on a voice message system can make or break this person's interest in doing business with you.

    Company Stationery

    • Purchase business cards, letterhead and envelopes that match and contain the company logo. Use the personalized letterhead for printing invoices, contracts and quotes. The use of company stationery helps a business convey a consistent and professional visual image.

    Professional Appearance and Hygiene

    • Encourage employees to dress professionally and practice good personal hygiene. Discourage flashy jewelry or revealing clothes; strong perfume; and gum chewing in the presence of clients. Poor hygiene and unprofessional attire can distract customers from seeing the positive aspects of your products or services.
