Christmas Stocking Gift for Mom
Stocking surprises provide some of the best moments on Christmas morning. There are so many potential goodies to stuff them with, especially for Mom. A wild assortment of treats can come spilling out of Mom's Christmas stocking: salt-water taffy hand-wrapped in white wax paper; a pair of tickets to the symphony; an exquisite crystal tree ornament; a year-long fruit or flower subscription; or even a diamond necklace in a red velvet box.

Candy
-
No Christmas stocking is complete without candy. And it doesn't matter how much she denies it: your mom wants you to show her the chocolate. Fill her stocking with loose, individually-wrapped gourmet truffles; a chocolate orange, wrapped in orange foil; white chocolate bark sprinkled with peppermint crumbs; or even a bag of gourmet cocoa or chocolate-covered coffee beans. If your mom has a sentimental Christmas favorite -- for example, if she always received chocolate-covered cherries for Christmas as a girl -- be sure to uphold the tradition and slip a box into her stocking.
Fragrance and Cosmetics
-
If your mom has a favorite fragrance, a vial of cologne is a nice stocking stuffer. If she already has the perfume, you might give her body lotion, powder or soap in the same fragrance. But don't feel bound by what she already has. A small vial of a new cologne is a risk-free way for her to try something different. You can also give her items from her favorite cosmetics or skincare line. Though small in size, designer lipstick, powder or skin cream can represent a very generous gift.

Gift Certificates and Subscriptions
-
Gift certificates and subscription cards are perfect to tuck into the top of a stocking. You can give a gift certificate to your mom's favorite department store, restaurant, spa, hair salon or clothing boutique. If you want to give her more freedom of choice, you can give her a mall gift certificate. A magazine subscription, or a subscription to a year-long fruit or flower delivery club, is the gift that will keep on giving long beyond Christmas. If you want something more down to earth, give your mom a book of chore coupons, good for things like one home-cooked meal, or one load of washed clothes.
Tickets
-
If your mom loves the arts, slip a pair of tickets to that hot play or sold-out concert into her stocking. Alternatively, you can give her museum tickets, tickets to unusual performance venues, such as a murder mystery train or medieval joust. If she's a sports fan, you can give her tickets to an upcoming game. If she's really adventurous, you can buy her a zipline tour or whitewater rafting admission at a local outfitters.
Jewelry
-
Nothing makes Mom say "aaaahhhhh" like the shiny stuff. Surprise your mom with a sparkly silver necklace adorned by as big a gemstone as you can afford. If you can't afford one on your own, make it a family project and have everyone chip in. For a twist, go to an estate sale and buy a striking antique brooch or bracelet. You can sometimes pick up antique jewelry for a fraction of its worth, and the gift will be absolutely unique.
