High School PE Games
High school gym class provides an opportunity for students to play games like traditional football and soccer and innovative games like indoor hula hoop golf. Innovative games can offer new lessons and introduce interesting exercises.

Go for the Goal
-
Divide the class into two teams and set each team on one side of a basketball court. Have the teams try to hit the basket on the other end of the court using Frisbees. Scoring is as follows: hitting the backboard outside the square is worth 1 point, hitting the backboard in the square is worth 2 points, hitting the backboard and scoring a goal is worth 4 points and hitting and scoring a direct basket without hitting the backboard is worth 6 points. Have the teams play to 20 points or any score desired.
Dazeball
-
Split the class into two teams, with one team playing defense and the other playing offense. The defensive players should spread out across the gym, while the offensive players should line up at one end of the gym. Using a dodge ball (or some other soft ball) have an offensive player throw the ball somewhere in the gym. The offensive player needs to run to the opposite gym wall and back to score a point. A defensive player needs to get the ball. However, aside from getting the ball, the defensive players are supposed to stay in the same spot. The defense then must pass the ball three times before trying to hit the offensive player. After three outs, switch teams and repeat.

Zone Ball
-
Separate students into groups of 10 players. Place five hula hoops around the basketball goal. Have the defensive players keep one foot in the hula hoop. Offensive players must chest pass the basketball to each other and not dribble the ball. Once every offensive player has had the ball, the offense can shoot. The teams switch places once a goal is made, the ball touches the floor or a turnover happens.
Badminton Golf
-
Create "golf holes" by placing nine hula hoops around the gym for the holes and nine pylons around as tee off areas. Place another pylon in the hula hoop as a flag. Give each student a badminton racket and a birdie. Split students into groups and have each group start on a different hole. Each student must tee off with an underhanded hit. Then the students are to walk to where their birdie landed and pick it up without moving and hit it again until they get it in the hole. If a birdie bounces out of a hole, it doesn't count as being in the hole. Students are penalized one point for each rule they break.
