The possibilities are endless when selecting wedding colors. Considerations include the number of colors you choose, the color family and whether you will opt for contrasting colors. Factors such as the season, venue and theme of the wedding all come into play. Everything from the bridesmaids' dresses to the flowers is affected by the choice of color, so finding the right wedding colors is an important decision.

  1. Spring

    • Which flowers are in season factors in to the decision for selecting wedding colors. Spring provides no shortage of fresh, in-season flowers from which to choose, so the color options are plentiful. A pink and ivory color scheme, for instance, could include large, light pink peonies and ivory roses. Bright yellow and sage green is an eye-catching color combination, as is blue and purple. For a simple, elegant spring color scheme, green and cream is an option.

    Summer

    • Colors that contrast drastically make for striking summer wedding decor. Vibrant color combinations like aqua blue and lime green, hot pink and navy blue or yellow and orange are contrast options. Using one of the contrast colors for tablecloths and the other for the napkins, for instance, is a way to showcase the contrasting combinations. For a more subdued color palate, combinations that include black provide a formal touch. Options include black, white and green or black and light pink.

    Fall

    • Choices for fall wedding colors can be inspired by nature and its changing seasons. In the fall, the leaves are turning into shades of orange and red, which can become the color scheme for a fall wedding. Brown is another option for a fall wedding; combinations could be red and orange, orange and brown or brown and green. For a burst of color, hot pink is a possible addition. Hot pink and orange, for example, gives a splash of color to a fall wedding.

    Winter

    • Winter weddings are often about elegance and refinement. A sophisticated color palate can elevate a formal affair. Selections include lavender, cream and chocolate brown, and basic black and white. Achieve elegance by using multiple hues of the same color, too, such as a mixture of blues, from robbin's-egg to midnight. Varying hues of pinks and reds also create this effect. Select shades ranging from blush to cranberry.
