Kinds of Wedding Invitations Design
Wedding invitations come in a variety of styles to suit all types of ceremonies. Whether your wedding theme is casual, formal, funky or foreign, you can find an invitation to suit your style. Formal
-
Formal style invitations usually follow a traditional format. Made of heavy, luxurious and, often textured, cardstock, formal invitations have a classic look. Brides typically chose script or calligraphy engraving for a formal invite and often include a monogram, family crest or fleur-de-lis design on the front. Colors tend to be white, cream or sometimes pastels. Traditional wording is the norm for these invitations that look every bit as expensive as their cost.
Ethnic
-
Today, many couples choose to honor their heritage by having an ethnically-oriented wedding. Invitations of this sort run the gamut of options. A variety of cardstock, print styles, fonts and wording adjust to fit the traditions of the country the couple is honoring. Choosing colors, flowers, symbols and flags associated with their country of origin for the invitations are common.

Seasonal
-
Some brides choose an invitation design to match the season of their wedding. Winter styles often come in cool colors such as white, silver, gray and blue with snowflakes, icicles and other subtle decorations to indicate the season. Spring brings to mind flowers in both bright and pastel colors, raindrops and blossoms of all kinds. Autumn invitations often include red, orange, brown and gold colors with falling leaves or bare tree branches. Summer invitations may include a sunburst design, flowers, greenery and even palm trees to represent the sunny days of the season.
Destination
-
As destination weddings become more common, so do invitations centered around this theme. Choosing a theme that echoes the destination is a traditional way to go for the wedding that takes place in another location. Foreign stamps, palm trees, beach scenes, waves, starfish and seagulls are just some of the imagery that adorn these invites. The objective of the destination invitations is to put guests in the proper state of anticipation about the locale.
Religous
-
Couples who marry in a religious ceremony sometimes choose invitations to reflect that theme. Invitations with symbols from all religions are available and place the emphasis on the sanctity of the ceremony. Others may include a religious verse from the their holy book or quotes from prominent figures of the religion.
