The term "agreement" is used frequently in a business setting. It refers to legal and binding contracts that are written to outline, bind or protect the business, employees and customers. There are many types of agreements, each having its purpose within an operating business. Some are more serious than others and can end up in legal action if the agreement is breached or disrespected.

A business agreement often is a term used to describe a legal contract between two parties. Even though "agreement" sounds less authoritative, agreements are legal contracts in a business meaning. If an employer signs an agreement with an employee or a customer, the agreement functions as a contract, so both parties must take proper action to legally break the contract if desired.
Types of Agreements

Agreements can be written and used between an employer and an employee as a guide to the responsibilities and tasks in a given job. It can also be an agreement between the two parties to provide extensive training. Companies can also create confidentiality agreements that are issued to both employees and customers, if the company needs to provide private information during a given situation. Other types of agreements include rental agreements, project agreements and business ownership and partnership agreements.

Business agreements are designed to protect all parties involved. Confidentiality agreements, for instance, are designed to protect vital and private information shared between the two parties involved in the contract. An employee job agreement is designed to protect the employee from losing his job as long as he completes the expected tasks. A customer agreement is designed to protect the customer and company in a given transaction. Agreements created between companies are meant to protect both companies involved, including assets and monetary values.
Using Agreements as Evidence

Business agreements also are designed to provide proof that agreements were indeed made between parties. Because the business agreements are considered legal contracts, they can be used as evidence in court should one party decide to sue another. The agreement must be detailed and explain in writing the exact procedures or methods that are causing the disagreement. The more detailed the business agreement, the more evidence and power the contract provides the parties in court.
