Many small children, especially around toddler age (twos and threes) like to pull at things and will see the dog's hair and tail as just another item to pull. A Shiba Inu is very bold and responds to a pack leader concept. As an adult, it is your job to assume this role and obedience school can be an important part of that. Shiba Inus are also traditionally shy around strangers so it is a good idea to bring the puppy around people and other animals often.

Adult Shiba Inus continue the loyalty trait and enjoy being around a family, including children. The dog loves to walk, which can be a great way for a child to spend time with the dog and practice training. As adults, Shiba Inus travel well and would love accompanying a child on camping trips or other activities. Just be careful of leaving the Shiba Inu around small pets like rabbits or mice as it is a hunting dog and may not realize it should not be attacking these pets.
