Schreiber Effects of Full Spectrum Light on Children
In 2000, Hualing Mi, Christof Klughammer and Ulrich Schreiber submitted an article to the Oxford Journals entitled "Light-Induced Dynamic Changes of NADPH Fluorescence in Synechocystis PCC 6803 and Its ndhB-Defective Mutant M55." The article further explored what some already suspected: that the lack of full-spectrum lighting can have negative effects. One group of the population spends a lot of time exposed to florescence lighting: children in school classrooms. Studies have found that full spectrum lighting helps to combat these effects. This is because full spectrum lighting more closely resembles the light emitted by the sun.

Cavities
-
Install full spectrum light in classrooms and the number of cavities will decrease. One study entitled, "A Study into the Effects of Light on Children of Elementary School-Age--A Case of Daylight Robbery," found that the amount of cavities reported in the children was 1.75 percent less than classrooms without full spectrum lighting.
Grades
-
Full spectrum light increase scholastic achievement. After installing full spectrum in classrooms, students had higher grades than those who were exposed to fluorescent lighting.
-
Attendance
-
When full spectrum bulbs were installed in the classroom, attendance improved. Children were sick less and missed less days of classes.
Weight
-
Improve the health and weight of the children. When children are exposed to full spectrum lighting, they gain less weight than children who are exposed to fluorescent lighting. Children also grow more quickly when exposed to full spectrum lighting than those just exposed to florescent lighting.
