Decorative Lanterns
-
Making decorative lanterns from brown paper bags is simple. You can either use plain paper bags, or cut out shapes from the bags to make them more distinctive. When cutting out shapes, use a pair of small scissors to make tinier cutouts. Another option is to use hole punches in flower or animal shapes, or decorative decals. These hole punches can be found at your local arts and crafts store. Fill the paper bags a quarter of the way up with small pebbles (again, these can be purchased in bags at a craft store). Carefully place an electric candle or a small tea light into the bag. Turn on the electric candle or light the tea light just before people arrive, to give a gentle and warm glow to the room. Also, you can use these simple lights to line a walkway or a garden.
Seed Starter Kits
-
This is an excellent craft to make during the shower itself, especially if it is during the spring or summer. Purchase very small brown paper bags (smaller than sandwich size), a variety of terracotta pots, and an assortment of vegetable and flower seeds. Also have decorative tools available, including stickers, markers, crayons, glue, and scissors. Have your guests choose a variety of different seeds, and make up small personalized seed packets that can then be placed inside decorated terracotta pots. These make for an excellent takeaway gift as well, if you want to make the kits ahead of time. Tie a piece of ribbon around the pot or the seed packets, to give a pretty finish to the item.

Game: Guess What's In the Bag?
-
This is a classic baby shower game. Gather an assortment of children- and baby-related items, such as a pacifier, a set of baby booties, a drinking bottle or a rattle. Place the items into individual brown paper bags, and seal them shut with tape. Number the bags, and distribute them among your guests. Guests can make guesses about what is in the bag by squeezing, shaking and touching the bag. Have them write down their guesses on a slip of paper, and then reveal the items in the bag. The guest with the most correct number of items identified receives a prize.
For Children: Animal Puppet Craft
-
It is common that younger children now attend baby showers. Brown paper bags make for an excellent and affordable craft item for children. Purchase a variety of craft and decoration supplies, including pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and pieces of foam and felt in different shapes. Have a collection of markers and crayons available, as well as white glue. Have the children make their own animal puppets by gluing on the eyes onto the bottom of the paper bag, with the flap side being the animal puppet's "mouth."
