Volumizer Diets
Volumizer dieting is a type of dieting where individuals are able to eat the same volume of food and do not feel hungry, while cutting back on calories at the same time. The Volumetrics Diet, which was developed by Dr. Barbara Rolls, focuses on getting fewer calories by eating less calorie-dense foods, rather than by cutting the volume or amount of food.
-
Before Meal Eating
-
Eat a salad or soup before a meal. Salads and soups are water-based and have low fat content, which makes them ideal to cut calories and lowers other food intake by filling up the stomach before the meal.
Adding Vegetables
-
Add more vegetables to the meals. The Volumetrics Diet has alternative recipes available which allow eating favorite foods, but changing it to have more vegetables or fruits, which are low in calories, than high fat meats.
-
Non-limiting
-
Moderate alcohol or junk food intake. The Volumetrics Diet is not a limiting diet. It allows individuals to eat whatever they want, but encourages them to pay attention to the calories in the food and make decisions to eat foods with high water content, rather than foods with high fat content. Moderating or minimizing high calorie foods and drinks like alcohol or chips results in lower calorie intake.
Record Keeping
-
Keep a record of food and exercise. This helps determine where the diet needs improvement and where it is working out well.
Exercise
-
Add exercise. The Volumetrics Diet is a diet which encourages exercise. According to Web MD, dieters should start slow, then gradually work up to more exercise. For example, start with a 20-minute walk every day, then increase the walking time to 30 minutes.
