FreeRice.org Introduction
-
Freerice.org teaches many subjects through various exercises, with a philanthropic reward. For each question answered correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated to hungry people. This may not sound like a lot, but the site allows you to organize a classroom into a group and make a game or competition out of it. These grains add up and help people while children are learning.
FreeRice.org Exercises for Grammar and Vocabulary
-
More specifically, Freerice.org offers several exercises that help students at all levels with their writing. One of the exercises is grammar, in which the site shows two sentences and the student has to choose the correct sentence for grammar usage. In the vocabulary game, the site shows a word and four possible synonyms in which the student has to choose the correct answer. If the student answers a question incorrectly, the site shows the correct answer and mixes the question back in until she has answered correctly.

Grammar Ninja Game
-
Grammar Ninja is another free online game, which features a kid-friendly ninja as the main character. You can choose beginner, intermediate or expert levels upon entering the site. The ninja proceeds to ask questions focused on all areas of grammar. The beginner exercise asks you to locate the verb, noun or adjective depending on the question. A student simply clicks the answer and moves on to the next question. If a student answers incorrectly, he gets to try again while a red X is placed over the wrong answer to prevent the same mistake being made again.
Mad Libs: Widget
-
Mad Libs is a fun alternative to traditional grammatical education. It still requires students to know grammatical concepts and terms without being mundane and boring. Mad Libs offers a "widget" which can be placed on a classroom blog or website. Students can use this as an entertaining approach to learning grammar, presenting a variation from typical classroom activities, worksheets and games.
