Grants for Online Private Schools

There are a variety of educational grants and scholarships available to help a motivated learner afford to attend an online private school. The vast majority of these grants are awarded by online institutions themselves. Usually, online colleges and universities offer an array of financial assistance in the form of grants that do not need to be repaid.

  1. DeVry University Grants

    • DeVry University offers several grant programs to help students attend. The Presidential Scholarship will pay for up to half of a student's tuition; students with a grade point average of 3.33 or higher are eligible. The Herman DeVry Scholarship will pay for up to $1,500 per semester for students with a GPA of 2.7 or above. The Cisco Scholarship will pay up to $1,200 per semester for students pursuing a technology degree. DeVry also offers scholarships to veterans, minority students and the recently unemployed.

    Walden University Grants

    • Walden University offers several grant programs to help students pursue an online degree at the master's or doctoral level. The NEA Excellence in Public School Education Scholarship Program awards scholarships of up to $2,500 to students pursuing a master's in education or instructional design and technology. The Presidential Scholarship is available to students who are alumni of Walden University, and awards up to $5,000 towards the tuition cost of a doctorate. Other institutional grants include the Dave Palmer Military Scholarship and the National Public Service Scholarship.

    Kaplan University Grants

    • Kaplan University offers several grant programs to help students pay for tuition. The Kaplan University Success Scholarship awards $200 per course per quarter to a recipient, for a maximum possible award of $3,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be a first-time student at Kaplan University and have a GPA of at least 2.75. The Kaplan University Academic Achievement Scholarship for Undergraduate Non-Nursing Students amounts to a 20 percent reduction in the cost of tuition, and is available to non-nursing students with a GPA of 2.5 or above. Kaplan University also has grant programs specifically for majors in nursing and criminal justice.

    University of Phoenix Grants

    • University of Phoenix offers a wide array of grant programs that award recipients a full-tuition scholarship. For instance, the Kids' Chance Scholarship is available to children of individuals involved in a serious or fatal injury at work. The Teach for the Future Scholarship in the amount of $10,000 is available to current students pursuing a master's or bachelor's in education. Other grant programs at the University of Phoenix include the Manufacturing Institute Scholarship and the Serve It Forward Scholarship.
