Valentine's Day is a holiday all about love and romance, making it a popular day for couples to get married. Every couple looks forward to sharing their special day with friends and family at the reception. Wedding receptions can be expensive, but there are several ways to keep within budget. One way is to create your own table centerpieces. You can make beautiful centerpieces for a reasonable price.

  1. Candles with Rose Petals

    • Cut 3/4 of the stem off an open-style red silk rose and lay it in the center of the table. Place several white tea light or votive candles in clear or red candle holders around the rose. Create a heart around the candles and flowers using silk rose petals.

    Bud Vase

    • A simple, yet elegant centerpiece can be made with a single rose. Choose a bud vase in an uncommon shape such as square. Fill the vase with water and add a single rose -- red, white or pink. To add some extra flair to the centerpiece, put glass marbles, clear or colored, in the bottom of the vase. For more impact, group three bud vases together.

    Votives on Mirrors

    • Look in local craft stores for heart-shaped, square or round mirrors to use as a base for a candle display. Lay the mirror in the center of the table and place several red votive cups filled with votive candles on top of the mirror. Scatter heart-shaped gemstones in assorted colors around the votive holders. Instead of votives, red, pink and white pillar candles in various heights can be placed on the mirror.

    Balloons

    • Balloons also make an inexpensive centerpiece. Select the traditional Valentine's Day colors of pink, white and red for the latex balloons and add one or two foil heart-shaped Valentine's balloons to each arrangement. At the balloon store or party store, buy a specialty Valentine's weight to hold the balloons in place.

    Favor Display

    • Favors can be used for centerpieces in two different ways. The first is using wrapped favors as a centerpiece. Wrap the favors in Valentine's themed paper with coordinating ribbon. Arrange the favors on the table in a pyramid. The second way is to choose a decorative favor that will dress up the table unwrapped. Small candy dishes full of heart-shaped candy or apothecary jars filled with potpourri are two ideas. Display the favors in the center of the table as the centerpiece, and let guests take them home at the end of the reception.
